Take the Church to the People
Please enjoy this entry from our friend and Ministry partner Drew Grubbs. Drew is the Executive Director of Lead Tampa Bay and Pinellas Youth Project.
I work with a guy in Atlanta who runs one of the largest apartment ministries in the country. He does work all over the city by partnering with other ministries to provide evangelistic outreaches, after-school programs and other ministries that will impact the community.
When I first met him, I was in the middle of building a local student ministry at our church. It had grown from about 30 students to almost 220 in weekly attendance at our various services. We did this by building an excellent facility and providing transportation to interested students.
My friend was excited for us, but kept encouraging me to expand my reach by bringing the church to the people. I have to admit I was having fun executing the strategy we had already chosen. The idea of going into challenging neighborhoods and setting up shop without the resources I was used to just did not appeal to me.
The one thing I was willing to concede was that the way we did ministry had its limits because it cost a lot of money.
After prayer and consideration, we ended up deciding that we would do both. As our extension ministry grew, I got more and more excited about the power of establishing ministry sites in the community and on the campus of local schools.
I am now very excited about seeing ministries grow that go where people already are. Campus ministries and Community outreach ministries give us a chance to grow our evangelistic reach exponentially. Super happy to support a ministry like FCA who truly takes the church (Gospel) to the people (Campuses).
Praying God reaches all kinds of students with the Good News of Jesus Christ as we expand our reach and take the church to the people.
